    Jamestown

    Accra’s oldest district, Jamestown, boasts a vibrant bustling fishing village inhabited primarily by the Ga. At the beautiful sea location, you’ll see rows and rows of colourful traditional fishing canoes either on their return from the sea or about to head out, and fishermen pulling in their catch from the sea. In contrast, the remanence of colonisation is seen in picturesque old buildings in Dutch and British architecture. Discover the breathtaking views over the port as you climb to the very top of the red and white candy cane Jamestown Lighthouse.

    Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum

    Located in downtown Accra, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is the final resting place of Ghana’s first President and Africanist, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his wife Fathia. The Mausoleum epitomises Dr. Nkrumah’s holy trinity of peace, unity and life. The grand design of the Mausoleum represents swords turned upside-down symbolising peace in the Akan culture. From top to bottom the Mausoleum is dressed in Italian marble with a black star at its apex to symbolise unity; and surrounded by water the symbol of life is revealed. The grand view of Dr. Nkrumah’s statute is sited at the entrance of the Mausoleum. In addition, the Memorial Park hosts rare artefacts and memorabilia about Ghana’s inspirational first President and journey to independence.

    Arts Centre

    Often referred to as ‘tourist heaven’, the Arts Centre is an indoor market with hundreds of stalls exhibiting and selling traditional arts and crafts from all over Ghana. From handmade jewellery, to traditional woven Kente cloth, to wooden sculptures, to African drums, to intricate basket and bead work, to bright and beautiful clothing, to everything souvenir a tourist is looking for, you name it, the Arts Centre has it! Ghana’s creative arts are also showcased at the Arts Centre as it comprises of a theatre hall where local dance groups and actors perform.
